Ask Gemini in Google Maps for a stop while you drive, explained by monkey
Stop typing on your phone at the wheel. Gemini now lives inside Google Maps navigation, on your phone and on Apple CarPlay: start a route, tap Gemini, and ask out loud for a stop along the way. Here's how, and what to ask.
Google Maps now has Gemini built into navigation. While you drive, you can talk to it like a person: ask for a kind of place along your route, ask what it's like, and tell it to take you there. You never have to look down or type.
How to use it
- Before you pull out, open Google Maps and start your route.
- On your phone (Android or iPhone): tap the Gemini button in navigation and talk.
- On Apple CarPlay: start navigating in Google Maps on the car screen, then tap the Gemini icon on the right side.
- Ask your question out loud. Gemini answers out loud too.
Good things to ask
- "Is there a coffee place along my route, something close?"
- "What's popular there?"
- "Take me there, but avoid toll roads."
- "Is now a good time to go, or will it be busy?"
- "I see an accident." (it reports it for other drivers)
Where it works
- Phones: Google rolled Gemini into Maps navigation on Android and iOS everywhere Gemini is available.
- Apple CarPlay: rolling out since October 21, 2026, starting in the US, with more countries on the way.
- Android Auto: Google says support is coming.
- Don't see it yet? Update Google Maps; it rolls out gradually.
